Who is Troy Sims?

First and foremost I’m a follower of Christ. I strive to live out my life in a Christ honoring way.  I serve at my church, 121 Community Church, in 121Kids.  I volunteer in the large group setting helping write skits and acting.  I usually portray a redneck mechanic named T-Roy, who is often an object lesson, and occasionally tell the bible story as myself.  We teach the kids the following three truths:  I can trust God no matter what , treat other the way you want to be treated, and I need to make the wise choice.  I love working with kids.

I am the luckiest husband alive.  I am married to the most beautiful, smartest, funniest, Christ following, mother, and woman on the planet:  D’Anna

I am a blessed father.  Jacob is the smartest, cutest, funniest kid I know.  And Julia is the most beautiful girl with the most gorgeous smile.  Can you tell she has me wrapped around her finger?

I am a geek!  I’ve always enjoyed playing on computers.  I first coded on a vic 20 and a commodore 64.  I also attended computer camp in 5th grade and played on Apple IIe’s!!! How fun. I am a voracious consumer of the internet, hence the ‘….because the internet is my playground’ tag line.  I love to read about new technologies.  I’ve built and installed all the computers in my house and have been doing so for the last 6 years or so.  I’ve built gaming computers for my dad and uncle.  I’ve fixed many computer problems for friends and family.

I am and have always been a bookworm and loved reading. One of my favorite series when I was a kid was Prydan Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander, then I discovered The Hobbit!.  A cousin of mine turned me onto other sci-fi/fantasy authors Raymond E. Feist and Terry Brooks and the rest is history.  In Fantasy some of my favorites include J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, David Eddings, Piers Anthony, Robert Aspirin, Melanie Rawn, and Robin Hobb.  Although my sci-fi reading hasn’t been as extensive some of my favorites are Neal Stephenson, William Gibson, and Timothy Zahn.  I’ve also enjoyed some Christian fiction like Ted Dekker, Tim Lahay, And in the past 10 years I’ve ventured into some Theology with “Into to Christian Doctrine” by Millard Eriksonand most recently “Mere Chrisianity” by C.S. Lewis.  I also had a nice long stint collecting comics, although I did give it up and sell almost all of my collection.  I think I had around 10,000 comics at one time.  I collected mostly Marvel, with a smattering of D.C. and independents like Image, Valiant,  and Dark Horse.  My favorites were anything involving the X-Men: Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, New Mutants, Excalibur, Cable and many one-offs and specials.  I still have all of my X-Men comics I collected althought it only the Uncanny X-Men, including my prize comic “Giant Sized X-Men #1” from 1975!  It’s still in decent shape too.  I’ve recently borrowed the Civil War graphic novels from a friend and now I’ve got the comic itch again.  I would love to go back and fill in my X-Men collection and get caught back up.

I am a gamer.  I’ve always loved gaming.  From Pong on a black and white TV to the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, nintendo and sega.  Then in college I was introduced to Half-life on the PC and fell in love with PC gaming. Now if only I could afford the computer and the games I wanted, then it would be hard to find the time to play them.

I am a movie and TV watcher.  I love watching movies and TV with D’Anna.  Some my favorite movies are Matrix, Star Wars, Minority Report, Gross Point Blank, and Enemy of the State.  Our current favorite TV shows include Heroes, the Unit, CSI, Prison Break, and 24.
